Wedding Invite

Danielle Kroll - Wedding Invite

This is a wedding invitation that I worked on last year with a couple from Chicago. It’s the follow up invite to this save the date. I loved being able to incorporate some hand-done type and line work on these. The finals were letter-pressed with blue and gold ink. I didn’t get my hands on a physical copy but they looked beautiful in the photos!

Halloween Party Printables

Danielle Kroll - Vanitas

Brittany Jepsen runs one of my favorite blogs, the House that Lars Built. I always appreciate someone who loves using ALL the colors of the rainbow as much as I do. So it was a real treat to collaborate with her on this imaginative Halloween party. The theme is vanitas, which is an art history reference describing the brevity of life and nearness of death. I created the invites and menu which you can download and use for your own spooky soirees. Stay tuned for the recipes on Brittany’s blog!

Also, if you need an extra kick to get you into the Halloween spirit, how about listening to this Dead Man’s Bones album? If you haven’t heard of the band Dead Man’s Bones… it’s a side project of Ryan Gosling’s and their one album is actually really good. For me, it’s one of those seasonal albums that I can’t wait to hear when October rolls around.

These are some oldish pieces I did for the beautifully designed World Cup issue of Howler Magazine. The written cities are where matches took place in a specific year. Sadly I don’t know much about geography (or soccer) so it was cool to do some research for these! Lots more maps in the magazine.

This one was a lot of fun to work on! It’s a little booklet I put together as a Save The Date for an amazing couple in Chicago. After hearing all about their many memories and stories, we decided that a book of illustrations should be the way to go. The pages are filled with sentimental imagery that would really only make sense to the couple and their loved ones. We kept it simple (and a bit abstract) by not including a background story about the paintings. Complete with a stitched binding and some jazzy gold for the cover.

Danielle Kroll - Unplug Everyday

This is a little project I worked on with Chronicle Books called Unplug Everyday – 365 Ways to Log Off and Live Better. The pages are filled with simple steps you can take to cut back on technology. I recently heard a crazy statistic that the average person looks at their phone 150 times a day! Hopefully the pages of playful patterns and insights will inspire us all to take a breather from technology more often.

Available for purchase here.

The Art of Vintage Cocktails

Danielle Kroll - The Art of Vintage Cocktails

One day last winter I received a voicemail from Pam, of Egg and Dart Press, asking me if I wanted to illustrate (and design) a book of 50 vintage cocktails. I tried to keep my cool but I couldn’t stop smiling for a few days. The timeline was really tight and I had more than a few moments of panic… 50 illustrations about cocktails? Could get kind of monotonous. At times I felt I couldn’t possibly think of one more concept involving alcohol! We didn’t want a mediocre book with a few gems thrown in so we really tried to make each illustration as interesting as the last.

I love this little book, not only because of the way it came together visually, but also because of the delightful writing style of Stephanie Rosenbaum. Now that it’s all done, the only appropriate way to celebrate this is with a cocktail in hand, right?

You can pick up a copy of The Art of Vintage Cocktails here.
