Ladies Drawing Night

August 10, 2016

Last night I packed up a bag full of art supplies and headed to a Ladies Drawing Night in Brooklyn. Myself and a lovely group of lady illustrators spent the evening outside with twinkle lights, wine and plenty of flowers, which is what we were drawing.  Also did you know there’s a Ladies Drawing Night book coming out next week? I make a cameo in one of the chapters about drawing on location.

Check out my drawings from last night here and preorder this amazing book here!

Flowers and Fences

Living in Brooklyn, you don’t really see the most beautiful foliage. But I find that the tiny neighborhood rose gardens in Greenpoint are enough to keep me at ease.

When I looked back on this painting I realized that it reminds me of a Polish vest my mom used to own. Similar to this one. She said she wore it in the Pulaski day parade when she was little. It was a small kids size or else I’d have wanted to keep it for myself!

Some cut-paper stationery I made last year for Kate Spade New York! The gold foil looks just lovely.

Floral Prints in the Shop

I just added four floral prints to the shop!

These were made when I splurged on a big pack of color-aid paper and started playing around. My Grandma always told us, “never skimp on buying food.” As a working artist I say, “never skimp on buying art supplies.” You’d be surprised how much better your work can look when you invest in the expensive paints and paper. My brands of choice are Holbein’s Acryla Gouache for paint. For paper I like Bockingford tinted paper in cream and Arches watercolor blocks. Personally I like a textured paper but different styles call for different materials so shop around and find what feels right for you!

I always liked this poem. My mom had a dish towel with the full version on it.
