Some flowers I noticed that are still in bloom in my neighborhood.
I’ve lived in Greenpoint for 5 years. It’s changed a lot since I first moved in, but it’s been a little haven from the noise pollution and crowds of more bustling neighborhoods. My studio is in Greenpoint as well so everyday I get to take a casual 20 minute walk to get there. The gardens tucked in between apartments and brownstones are all carefully tended by the local, mostly Polish, residents. Walking down the street, you’ll always see someone outside brushing their stoop, washing the sidewalk, painting a fence, picking up trash… One time I overheard a conversation between a Polish man who was working on his hedges and his American neighbor who was outside, spectating while smoking a cigarette.
“You’re always working on something!” she said
“Well yes, there is always something to do if you like working.” he answered
